As part of Refugee Week, we're delighted to be hosting this community powered event organised by Soul Sofa and The Village Pottery. Through a programme of arts & culture, sports and educational activities alongside exciting media and creative campaigns, Refugee Week brings people from different backgrounds to connect beyond labels, as well as foster a deeper understanding of why people are displaced, and the challenges people face when seeking sanctuary.
You can drop in from 10am - 5pm when we will be screening a series of family friendly short films exploring displacement and in response, will be creating a collaborative art work in clay which will be on permanent display at The Village.
At 6pm will then be screening Fremont cert 12A (90mins): A moving and hilarious comedy-drama by Babak Jalali starring Anaita Wali Zada and The Bear’s Emmy award-winning Jeremy Allen White. Donya, a young Afghan who moved to Fremont, California after serving as a translator for the American army, spends her days working at a fortune cookie factory and her nights wide awake battling between her desire to rebuild her life and the overbearing guilt she carries within. In a bid to connect with the world, she sends an unconventional message through a fortune cookie.
