Location:
The Village CIC, Market Harborough
Job Type: Part-Time

Working Hours:

  • 3 to 4 weekday shifts: 10:00am – 2:00pm
  • Saturday: 10:00am – 5:00pm

Job Description:

  • We’re looking for a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused Café Assistant to join our team.
  • This hands-on role includes preparing and serving food and drinks, baking cakes, batch-cooking dishes for the café, supporting our volunteers, and keeping things running smoothly day-to-day.
  • You’ll need to be confident working both independently and as part of a small team.

    Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide excellent customer service in a welcoming and approachable way
  • Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks, and light meals
  • Plan ahead for kitchen prep, stock checks, and busy periods to ensure consistency,
    readiness, and steady café operations (experience in this area is a bonus)
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the café
  • Handle cash and card payments accurately
  • Work independently at times, using your own initiative to manage tasks
  • Support and guide volunteers working alongside you
  • Assist with café-based community events and activities

    For the right candidate, the role will also include:
  • Bake cakes for our café counter
  • Cook batches of soups, stews, or other simple meals for the café menu

    Requirements:
  • Must be 18 or over
  • Experience in food preparation is essential
  • Up-to-date food hygiene training (Level 2 Food Safety or above)
  • Confidence in baking and basic cooking
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to take initiative and manage tasks independently
  • Reliable, punctual, and well-organised
  • Experience with stock management is desirable but not required
