Location: The Village CIC, Market Harborough
Job Type: Part-Time
Working Hours:
- 3 to 4 weekday shifts: 10:00am – 2:00pm
- Saturday: 10:00am – 5:00pm

Job Description:
- We’re looking for a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused Café Assistant to join our team.
- This hands-on role includes preparing and serving food and drinks, baking cakes, batch-cooking dishes for the café, supporting our volunteers, and keeping things running smoothly day-to-day.
- You’ll need to be confident working both independently and as part of a small team.
Key Responsibilities: - Provide excellent customer service in a welcoming and approachable way
- Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks, and light meals
- Plan ahead for kitchen prep, stock checks, and busy periods to ensure consistency,
readiness, and steady café operations (experience in this area is a bonus) - Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the café
- Handle cash and card payments accurately
- Work independently at times, using your own initiative to manage tasks
- Support and guide volunteers working alongside you
- Assist with café-based community events and activities
For the right candidate, the role will also include: - Bake cakes for our café counter
- Cook batches of soups, stews, or other simple meals for the café menu
Requirements: - Must be 18 or over
- Experience in food preparation is essential
- Up-to-date food hygiene training (Level 2 Food Safety or above)
- Confidence in baking and basic cooking
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to take initiative and manage tasks independently
- Reliable, punctual, and well-organised
- Experience with stock management is desirable but not required
